I have been struggling with some skin concerns, namely:
- visible pores
- fine lines
- loose skin
- volume loss
- and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation from acne
Upon hearing about my several concerns, Dr Terence Tan from Halley Medical Aesthetics – whom I had a consultation with for my Hydrafacial, introduced me to the Potenza Radio Frequency (RF) Microneedling treatment. This versatile anti-ageing facial rejuvenation treatment combines two proven technologies – traditional microneedling with innovative radio frequency technology, to effectively address a whole range of different skin concerns. It is also a US FDA-approved non-surgical treatment that has minimal downtime.
I was really intrigued by the idea of the treatment and after much consideration, I decided to give it a shot, hoping that it would be the key to beautiful, radiant skin.

The process first started with a consultation with Dr Tan who explained to me about Potenza RF Microneedling. He was friendly and knowledgeable, putting medical jargon in simple terms that helped me understand the process better. He was also extremely helpful, answering all my questions patiently and putting every doubt and fear I had to ease.
After he did a quick assessment of my skin, I was invited to the treatment room to start the procedure.
Now, some of you might be worried about the pain of microneedling. However, fear not! Although it might sound scary as it involves needles, when I got into the treatment room, the therapist applied a topical numbing cream all over my face before any microneedling started. It was initially one of the concerns I had as well but it was safe to say that I did not feel any pain during the procedure!
More about Potenza RF Microneedling
Before we get into the procedure, let me explain more about how the Potenza RF Microneedling procedure works. This minimally invasive aesthetic treatment addresses a range of different skin concerns and has minimal downtime. Benefits of this treatment include:

- Reduction of fine lines and wrinkles
- Lifting and tightening of the skin
- Improvement of acne and acne scars
- Improvement in melasma and rosacea
It does all of these amazing things for your skin by utilising ultrafine microneedles to deliver radiofrequency energy into the skin. Its patented tips release RF energy at two different depths:
- Monopolar RF: This RF wave delivers uniform heat at a controlled depth to deeper levels of the skin.
Bipolar RF: This RF wave delivers thermal energy at a more concentrated but superficial dermal layer to achieve overall skin revitalisation.
By combining the use of these two RF waves, Potenza is thus able to treat different skin concerns, making it a versatile and highly customisable treatment.
What to Expect – The Potenza RF Microneedling Procedure
After the numbing cream was given ample time to take effect, Dr Tan started the process of microneedling. Firstly, the microneedle tip was placed on the epidermis – the top layer of our skin to penetrate the skin tissue. The micro-injuries from the needle tip triggered the body’s natural healing process, allowing the skin to regenerate new collagen and elastin. With the different settings available on the machine for depth of treatment, monopolar or bipolar RF energy was then directly applied to the target area during the treatment to strengthen elastin fibres and remodel collagen fibres.
As this treatment targets the deeper layers of our skin, it reaches areas tropical treatments cannot. This allows active ingredients to penetrate deeper into the dermis layer of the skin so that it can reap the most benefits out of the products used at this step. In addition to stimulating collagen production, blood circulation is also increased within the dermis, which will result in improved skin health, texture and overall appearance over time.
Enhancing the Treatment with Serum Infusion
At this point, my skin has been sufficiently punctured by microneedles and it is the perfect opportunity to boost the results of the treatment by adding a serum. Dr Tan explained that layering a serum after microneedling allows the serum to be absorbed more deeply into the skin, reaping more of its benefits. We went with the Rejuran Tone-Up Booster which contains anti-inflammatory, skin healing and regenerative properties. The booster helps to soothe the skin after the microneedling procedure and accelerate the healing process while amplifying the effects of the treatment. It also helps brighten dull skin, improves skin texture and reverses the signs of ageing.
Potenza RF Microneedling Post-Treatment Care
After the treatment, I could see some redness and needle marks.
However, I was reassured that this was normal and would only take about a day to subside. Indeed, within a few hours, the redness and marks were gone! I was simply left with brighter, clearer and healthier-looking skin!
Dr Tan also briefed me on the aftercare for this treatment. I was surprised at how little I had to do on my part because nothing in my routine changed.
Continuing with the Treatment – How Many Sessions Do I Need?
For optimal results, Dr Tan recommended two to four sessions a month. I was also informed that results are optimal two to three months after the last treatment.
I am genuinely so happy with the way the treatment went! Overall, the team at Halley made sure I had a relaxing experience in the hands of experienced doctors and therapists who are passionate about what they do.
