Korean Beauty Trends You Need to Know in 2021

From cream skin to straight brows and gradient lips, Korean beauty trends are hard to ignore. Like any trends in the world, Korean beauty trends are ever-changing. However, one thing that doesn’t change is that Koreans always keep their beauty looks natural and flattering.

So what’s hot and what’s not amongst the Koreans in 2021? Let’s take a look and make sure that you aren’t lagging behind.

1. Mirror skin

The glass skin from 2017 and cream skin from 2020 made way for mirror skin this 2021. Think your post-facial glow. As the name suggests, mirror skin is skin that is so bright and glowy that it is almost reflective. However, keep in mind that this has got nothing to do with oily skin.

Mirror skin is can only be achieved if you have healthy skin, and the trend centers around a solid skincare regime. Drink lots of water, and keep your skin hydrated with your favourite serums and moisturisers to take your skin up a notch in the glow department.

Of course, highlighters can definitely give you that extra glow boost although mirror skin is all about skincare. Do avoid powdered highlighters though, as they may matte down the dewy glow in your skin. Opt for liquid highlighters that you can mix into your foundation to achieve an all-over glow. But always remember, less is more!

2. Mauve makeup

From the coral to rose-tone makeup that dominated Korean beauty over the past few years, 2021 saw a new colour trend. Mauve makeup, especially that which is monochromatic, made a fast and furious move in the Korean makeup scene.

Mauve tone makeup is a balance between the sweet girly pink and the sexy red, making it a versatile look for someone who is looking for something in-between — nothing too sweet nor sexy, but yet enough to make a statement. Celebrities like BLACKPINK’s Lisa and beauty Youtuber Pony have been seen rocking mauve makeup, just to name a few.

In case you are not sure how to create a mauve makeup look, here’s a makeup tutorial from Pony to help you.

3. Goodbye gradient lips

Gradients lips were a staple in a Korean makeup look but it seems that the trend is gone for good. Ladies are now skipping the two-tone lips and going for a fuller pout with one single lip colour.

Many makeup tutorials teach us how to use makeup to create an illusion of fuller lips, usually by applying lipstick outside our lip line. That works, for sure. However, another way to achieve fuller lips non-surgically is to pop by your regular aesthetic doctor for a lip filler treatment.

Lip fillers treatment in Singapore is a minimally-invasive procedure that will give you fuller and plumper lips, and minimise your lip lines. Filler treatments are also called “lunchtime procedures” due to the fact that they are done pretty quickly and have no downtime.

Dermal fillers have gained popularity in Singapore over the years, and they can be used to contour and enhance your lips, and other facial features like your nose, chin, jawline, and cheeks, for example. There are many different types of dermal fillers in the market, classified into two main types — hyaluronic acid fillers and collagen-stimulating or non-hyaluronic acid fillers. The best person to tell you which filler is the best for your beauty concern is none other than your aesthetic doctor.

However, beware of overfilling your lips. You don’t want to get that infamous trout pout! “체리입술” (cherry lips) is the biggest Korean lip filler trend where aesthetic doctors focus the filler in the centre of the lips, rather than giving an overall plumping the whole two lips.
