Hey guys! I’m Nicolette, otherwise known as @nicolettelovesyou on Instagram. If you are familiar with my content, you’d know that my skin’s health is really important to me. I’m always trying out new skincare, experimenting to find what works best for my skin and today, I’d like to share my experience of a treatment I did with Halley Medical Aesthetics!

Recently, I’ve been dealing with some minor breakouts and clogged pores, and in my quest for clearer, brighter skin, I decided to try an Intense Pulsed Light treatment with Halley Medical Aesthetics.

The only previous experience I’ve had with IPL was for hair removal on my arms a few years ago so I was excited to see how far the IPL technology had come! Frankly, I was also a little nervous as it had been years since my last IPL treatment but thankfully, the atmosphere at Halley was nothing if not calming.

Upon entering the clinic, I was greeted graciously by the Halley team who assisted me with the sign-in process. I then met with my beauty therapist, Kanako, who talked me through what to expect and patiently answered all my queries about the procedure before I was shown to a treatment room to begin the facial.

Also, don’t forget to check out my journey below!

Here’s how IPL works:

Intense pulsed light, or IPL for short, is a non-surgical light-based treatment that rejuvenates the skin and improves its tone and texture. Working by emitting high-intensity pulses of light that penetrate the skin, this treatment helps kill acne bacteria, calm inflammation, and reduce excess sebum production. Over time, it also stimulates collagen formulation, reducing fine lines and creating a renewed appearance.

If you are looking to:

IPL might be the perfect treatment for you. Not to mention, the IPL treatment also has no downtime, meaning that I was able to go about my day as normal after the session.

Furthermore, IPL can be paired with these synergistic treatments to enhance the result of and target acne-related issues:

Halley’s Whitening Peel Containing lactic acid, glutathione, kojic acid, and arbutin, Halley’s Whitening Peel can help brighten up skin, lighten pigmentation, and even out skin tone to enhance the effects of IPL.

Vitamin C fights acne, and heals acne-related blemishes while the Stem Cell Serum aids skin renewal. Combined with this infusion treatment that pushes these two super serums deep into the skin to maximise absorption by the skin, this treatment can effectively target acne-related issues.

The Rejuran booster containing salmon-derived DNA helps rejuvenate skin cells by stimulating the skin’s growth factors. This accelerates the skin’s natural healing process, reversing skin damage and increasing collagen production. Combined with the infusion treatment to ensure that the booster penetrates the skin deeply, this can yield optimal results.

This treatment uses very fine micro-needles to deliver monopolar and bipolar radio frequency (RF) energy into the skin to reduce acne-causing bacteria, control oil production, reduce inflammation, improve skin texture, and stimulate skin renewal.

Therapist preparing Nicolette before treatment

The treatment process started out with a thorough analysis of my skin’s condition, allowing my therapist to customise the best treatment plan for me. To prepare for the actual IPL procedure, she cleaned my skin gently and laid some cotton pads over my eyes to protect them from the light. A layer of gel was then applied over my face to ensure that the light energy from the IPL tip could be passed into my skin safely and effectively.

Though my therapist did mention before the treatment that the flashes of light might feel like a gentle snapping of a rubber band on my skin, I was surprised to find that the treatment didn’t hurt the least bit, especially given my low tolerance to pain!

Starting with a focus on my trouble areas, the treatment then moved onto the entirety of my face and ended with a photo shower. This is when a couple of short bursts of light are emitted from the applicator to help with cell-toning, effectively evening out the skin for a brighter, more radiant complexion.

However, the pampering did not stop there. The team at Halley went the extra mile by treating my skin to the clinic’s Brilliance skincare line and finished the session off with some sunscreen of course. The Brilliance series is a group of products containing ingredients meant to target acne and complement the effects of the IPL treatment.

I was also kindly given two of the skincare products to take home, which were the Clarifying Renewal Essence – a gentle exfoliant that clears clogged pores with glycolic acid and lactic acid and the Antioxidant Peptide Cream – a moisturiser containing squalane palmitoyl oligopeptide, coenzyme Q10, and vitamin C, specially formulated for oily skin.

Before I left, my therapist taught me how to take care of my skin post-treatment which included easy and manageable steps like applying sunscreen and avoiding prolonged sun exposure. I was also informed that to achieve optimum results, IPL should be done at least 3 times, once a month.

By the end of the treatment, I was pleasantly surprised by how much brighter my skin looked! My problem areas looked less irritated and inflamed, and I felt my skin was smoother and clearer.

If you too are interested in trying out this treatment, Halley Medical Aesthetics is running “The Christmas Makeover” program where you can enjoy a saving of $50 if you are trying their IPL facial for the first time. Enquire with the clinic for more December savings on their facial programs!

A huge thank you to the Halley team for taking such great care of me!
